Willie D. Lawson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Willie D. Lawson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to three outstanding NBGSA members. This scholarship is based on NBGSA involvement, university and community involvement, and academic excellence. This award has been established to recognize the legacy of Willie D. Lawson and all of his accomplishments. Willie D. Lawson served as Vice President of Administration Affairs from 1997-1999. Willie’s research interests included crime and delinquency and he planned to work for the Federal Probation Service after completing his graduate career. Willie D. Lawson’s untimely death was a great blow to NBGSA and the black community.
“On one hand, Willie was the type of easy going nice guy who was fun to be around. On the other
hand, he had other great qualities that made him ideal to work with in terms of providing
stewardship for an organization. When it came to the NBGSA, Willie's overriding interests were in the
health of the organization and in operating with integrity and efficiency.”
--Kevin Michael Foster, Ph.D.
We would like to recognize an outstanding NBGSA member who exhibits the qualities of dedication, community service, and leadership, significant in the ways representative of Willie D. Lawson's service to the organization.
